One of the first things i can advise you to do in London is going to a musical or theatre performance.
There are so many shows you can choose and the quality is far beyond anything else i had ever seen before. Brilliant voices, impeccable acting and interesting mise en scene.
The musical i saw last month was "Love story" at the Duchess Theatre. You can see it till April 30th. The actors are Emma Williams and Michael Xavier and their performance is so amazing that it seems you discover the classical "Love Story" all over again.
One more tip about this. Check the website http://www.lastminute.com/ for plenty of cheap offers, including theater plays! You can find tickets for big shows in London starting with only 10-15 GBP. And you can buy it in advance, it doesn't have to be a typical "last minute"purchase.

One of the songs of the play, about the greatness of pasta is performed while the actors are actually cooking pasta live. You can see them chopping the tomatoes and you can feel the smell of garlic going into the pan.
